I remember when this question popped up in the Jetpack daily prompt box. As to what my thoughts were at the time… I can hazard a guess, but four months on those particular challenges has settled down. Either they’ve become my new normal or have passed by completely.
In the meantime life has unfurled, adventures await and big changes are afoot. Needless to say, the next six months are going to be full of challenges.
So far these will be faced (mainly) in the vanilla world.
Big, scary things that I can’t imagine me from ten years ago achieving, being brave enough to seek out these things. Trusting in my self, my ability, even my resilience, is directly linked to my submissive journey.
The biggest challenge, by far, will be when SWL moves abroad. Don’t get me wrong, this is her adventure, and infinitely more for her. And we are both more than capable of thriving in long distance friendships. But driving home from dropping the boys a couple of months back, thinking about our upcoming travel plans and how I’m looking forward to sharing with her when I get home, it hit me…
I won’t be able to potter off across the Moor and bend her ear about the places we visited. In fact, the next (planned) time I’ll see her is when my little family flies out to see her next Easter. That’s eight and a half months without kitchen table time. Without my main accomplice for cheeky exhibitionist shots in random places that make us giggle. (Like the above, taken on our recent trip to London.)
What’s a girl to do?!
Fortunately, we live in a world of ready technology. Telephone calls, face time, long emails, silly messages… But I can’t help wondering how we will each adjust when our anchor friend is most of a days travel away.
But then I think of here, my blog. And the story behind the blog. I’ve started sharing the early days of our friendship, and there are so many adventures I can share over the coming months, to help me (and hopefully SWL) adjust to the challenges of a long-distance close friendship.
And have no doubt, it is purely an adjustment. We both have amazing lives in our own rights, and we will both keep having bonkers fun. Together, when we can, as well as apart. But the excitement of entering new phases of life will be stifled briefly while the dust settles. Lots of processing to be done in the aftermath of her move. Which means poring over pictures and giggling a whole bunch, even when it feels tricky.
So, you lucky lot…
While my writing has been a touch thin on the ground for the last four months, there are plenty of posts to reminisce through. And more memories to be made before she goes too, we have four more weekends, two of which are child free, to fill with fun new memories and enjoying past ridiculousness!
I’ve shared more amazing/silly/non-sensicle adventures with my fellow reprobate than you can shake a stick at. Watch this space…
In the meantime, tell me about your anchor friendships. Bonus points if you’ve faced a similar challenge!
