Endurance is patience concentrated. #boobday

Patience paid off and endurance increased to get me completing a tough 16 mile trail race.

Endurance running is along time goal for me, perhaps a more achievable one than patience. Well, I’m told I have the latter by the bucket load but… I don’t see it!

Last Saturday saw me completing my longest distance run ever, and for the first time ever it was a test of my endurance. I’ve completed a number of road half marathons in the past along with a few trail ten milers, but this “half” was different. At 16 miles long LatexC had warned that if the first eight were hard, the second were silly. But I’m used to running on Dartmoor so felt up to the challenge! What I hadn’t banked on was the weather being a formidable beast! With the ultra distance cancelled, the vast majority of marathoners either just went home or dropped to the long half. Joys!

There was bum sliding down slopes and a huge amount of encouragement given by a jolly senior runner. He happily showed me how to safely navigate what I can only describe as a mud slide at eight miles. Shortly after, I slipped while standing still and fetching my flapjack. Landing in a mud bath, perfection!! Covered head to toe in filth I caught him on the next ascent – a scramble up a cliff face. He took pity on me and tucked me under his wing from there.

This wasn’t just a fun event for me though.

Oh no! Earlier this year Sir tasked with completing a marathon by the end of February. So, I signed up to this jolly jaunt with plans for any eventuality. If I didn’t complete it I would run a road marathon at the end of February. If, IF, I actually managed it I would sign up for the trail equivalent 9 weeks later.

SO… You see the medal??

Guess which option I quickly signed up for?! My patience is paying off and my next true test of endurance is a trail marathon. Eeeeek!!!

It’s a good job I’m a masochist!!

Come and see what everyone else is up to for #Boobday

Update: After some delays, which were out of my control, I completed the trail marathon in May 2019.

    1. Haha, that would be amazing! Sadly the mandatory kit list may see me disqualified for running naked. ? Xxx

  1. Excellent photo. You’re a beast!! I had thoughts of working up to a marathon, but never had the time or endurance for it. You’re amazing. Good luck on your next run.
