Unchristmassy Christmas Song

Have you seen the prompt for Sinful Sunday this month? When I saw the theme is Christmas song / carols, this unchristmassy soul’s heart sank. I know, I know, I’m in the minority. But as years pass I am becoming increasingly aware that there are others like me. I certainly don’t want to take away from all of the gorgeous work that will surely be shared or prompt week, but I do want to offer an alternative idea for those of us who find the festive season a little tricky.

So I went trawling the net for the most unchristmassy Christmas song out there.

As it turns out there are dozens of posts across the internet, lists of unchristmassy Christmas songs. For example, Startle Music shared the Twelve Best non-Christmassy Christmas Songs. I can’t grumble too much about the list. They are indeed not too Christmassy, with some being rather enjoyable in spite of a mild festive feel. And it was nice to be reminded of some holiday films that I have enjoyed before and might try to find my Christmas spirit with this year. (Love Actually and Die Hard, in case you were wondering.)

Or maybe I won’t? Who knows…

Before I go into full on Festive- Grouch mode, let me continue.

I slipped on to Spotify, looked up “unusual Christmas” and what should appear?

Brett Kissel’s I Want A Massey Ferguson For Christmas. Total game changer! Not just because it made me sparkle with joy, also because I can be that irritating parent who puts on annoying tunes at the dinner table.

It sparked a memory of a fun day out too.

Back at Easter, when SWL and I went on a Dartmoor adventure, we found a rusty old tractor. Naturally I climbed up (this is permitted) and exposed myself. Now, I’ve already got Farm Equipment on my Scavenger Hunt found locations list, from a summer adventure with SWL in 2021. And I didn’t want to replace that one. So I decided to hang on to it. (I take photos because it is fun, if I get to share them that is ace! If not, that is also ace!)

Well, the Gods of Providence seem to be smiling on me at the moment. Or maybe it’s the festive fairies? Either way inspiration hit thanks to the song, and I get to share why exactly I need a new tractor for Christmas, in the most unchristmassy way. Though, if anyone feels like buying me a tractor, I’d rather a John Deere. Not that I have parking for an actual tractor at home!

Back to the prompt, and my post.

I know how much so many of you love the Christmas season. I love that for you. Bu for those of you who, like me, might find it a bit of a challenge, I wanted to do something a little different.

Finding this cheeky unchristmassy Christmas song has brought a smile to my face.

No mean feat when the sparkly Christmas decorations that are EVERYWHERE are chipping away at my reserves. Maybe, just maybe, it will bring a grin to your face?

And if it doesn’t, please know, you’re not alone.

We will be out the other side before we know it.

Sending gentle hugs to get you through.

While I don’t actually need a tractor, or have the space for it, there is something I would dearly love for Christmas. If any of you lovely folks would like to join in with, or support BoobDay, that would be wonderful! The more the merrier, in my opinion.

This is a safe and inclusive space and everyone and anyone is welcome to participate in BoobDay. BoobDay is about celebration and support. ‘Boob’ is a term that is intended to be gender neutral and it includes the chests and breasts of all sorts of folks. BoobDay is not limited to cisgender women. Basically, if you want to celebrate the beauty of boobs and join in with like-minded, body-positive, people who are embracing their curves or lack thereof, this is the link-up for you!

  • OHHHH! I LOVE IT!!! for many reasons, there's a special place in my heart for old tractors. It's part of my childhood, part of my teenage years. Like you, they are to be cherished.

There's a Christmas song in america - kind of a bluegrass number called "Grandma got run over by a reindeer". You should google it.

And about the picture, I love how your hand is gripping the gear shifter - that conveys thoughts to me ...
