I just love a skate park. The way that skaters of all ages come together and share their passion. I’m sure it’s not always the way, but I’ve only ever witnessed the older, more experienced and slightly intimidating youths being kind, supportive and imparting knowledge to the next generation of adrenaline junkie. Or the older ladies who can’t maintain her balance on a deck and ends up on her arse, being laughed at by her children!
It’s OK, we all do at times, and we enjoy other fun places instead. While it’s been a while since I embarrassed my smalls in that way, it’s not nearly as long as I’ve been participating in the Scavenger Hunt. My first location of the trig point happened over a year before my last family visit to a skate park. And Modesty’s inspiring Skateboarding post sparked a curiosity in my mind.
The skate park may no longer be in the boys interests, but my desire to scavenge the location hasn’t faded. Now, almost five years into my hunt, I finally have the opportunity to share. Not that they made it easy.
Who are they?
That’s right… These enthusiastic young skaters make such good use of the facilities. I’m not just talking about the few parks within walking distance. EVERY skate park I have stumbled across on my adventures (and you know me, I like to get about a bit!) seems to always have at least one skater. As a well-trained and ethical exhibitionist, I’ve only recently been able to bag the location. I make every effort to ensure that, even in the highest risk locations, I am not seen. ESPECIALLY by children.
A wet and murky school day late last year, while out for a run. Of course, behind me there are a few dog walkers in the playing field. But they are busy with their pooches. Too busy to keep an eye on what a woman with her back to them is photographing.
