Feet or Arse: LiFE Lesson #8

Whether I fall on my feet or fall on my arse, I dunno. You’ve got to take those risks.

~~Ryan Kwanten~~

I guess, historically, I was always the kind of girl who enjoyed pushing herself and taking risks. This was lost along the way somewhere. As I was squished by marital circumstance so was my bravery.

The last 7 years have shown me that I’m still that girl. And now I am back to my old self.

In spite of my fear of failure I am learning to accept that sometimes I will fall on my arse. The thought of this happening is terrifying, and Sir is very good at reminding me it’s part of the journey. That this is part of learning. One of the risks of vulnerability, of facing new experiences.

The more times I risk falling on my arse, the greater the opportunity to land on my feet. And the more times I do that, the more evidence I have that I wont necessarily land on my backside.

And if I do take a tumble…?

It’s never as bad as I imagined. I just pick myself up, and try again.

Give it a go, take a chance. You might just surprise yourself!

  • We all fall, and we all need to jump once in a while -- sometimes the landing can be jarring, even if we land on our feet... And it can be cushioned a bit when we fall on our arse! 😋

    • ...maybe...

So often, though, people make the same mistakes over and over again no matter how hard they fall or how hurt they get going downward.

Hard heads got nuthin' on bruised buns, I guess.

      : shrug :

  • Failing is how we learn, if we are smart enough to heed the lesson, or realize that there was one. Remember the fall, try something different in the next attempt. I think Edison said he didn’t fail 1000 times to make a lightbulb he just learned 1000 ways not to make a light bulb, they weren’t failures, just lessons in what not to do. Courage comes in picking ourselves up, and trying again, even if we keep falling.

  • I'm glad that you feel able to take risks again - pushing yourself can be so rewarding. I also really like how you've chosen to illustrate your point.

  • Stumbling and falling definitely makes us grow stronger, even if we sometimes make the same mistake again. Love this image of yours :)

  • Gorgeous picture and I love the words too, I'm trying to embrace that falling on my arse risk myself too.
